The history of Nepal dates back to the early 7th century when the kingdom of Nepal was under the rule of the Kirati dynasty who are often associated with the North India and Chinese communities. Later after generations of war and rivalry, Nepal came into existence through the ruler of the Gorkha community, Prithvi Narayan Shah who formed a unified country named as the Gorkha Kingdom. Later on, Chanakya, the advisor of Chandragupta named the country Nepala which later became Nepal and to date is known by the same. Being situated on the border of Northern India, Nepal shares a good relationship with India and shares similarities in culture and traditions.
Being one of the oldest countries in Asia, Nepal inhabits diverse communities that include more than 140 tribes speaking more than 90 languages in various parts of the country. The country has a population of around 30 million and is among the most populated country on the continent. Nepali is the official language while Hindi and Bhojpuri are spoken in the southern part of the country. Agriculture and tourism are the main sources of livelihood among the people of Nepal and is the largest producer of essential oils and medicinal herbs derived from dense forests.
Tourists need to opt visa for travelling to Nepal along with other personal documents which include a passport with 6 months of validity, a passport-size photo, proof of accommodation and an authorized Nepal visa form. Indians can visit the country without any need for a visa. However, they need to produce valid identity cards such as voter cards issued by the election commission and Adhaar cards at the time of entry. People travelling with private vehicles need to register their vehicles from the immigration office located at the border area of Kakarbhitta.
