Sharing an interstate border with Assam, Coochbehar is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Dooars known for its iconic sites and temples. Located in the southern part of the Alipurduar district, Cooch Behar is one of the oldest cities in this region once used to be under the rule of the Koch dynasty from the early 16th century to the 20th century. The district is stretched from the northern part of Dooars extending to the North of the Indo-Bangladesh border with Rangpur district. Being home to numerous sightseeing attractions the city is also popular for its historic palaces and museums, one such palace is the Cooch Behar Palace. Established in the year 1887 by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan, the palace is built on the principles of Italian architecture and is among the best attractions of this region.
